Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 22, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how mealsketch collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you use our website and app. We keep the data we collect to the minimum needed to run a family meal planner, and we never sell it.

1. Who we are

mealsketch is an early-stage (beta) product operated by Anton Yashkin, based in Germany. For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we are the data controller responsible for your personal data. You can reach us at any time at mealsketch@gmail.com.

2. Data we collect

We collect the following categories of data:

  • Account data — the email address and name you provide when you create an account, plus your password (stored only as a secure hash, never in plain text).
  • Content you create — the meal plans, recipes, ingredients, shopping lists, and family members you add while using the app. This content is yours.
  • Technical & usage data — basic information your browser sends automatically (such as IP address and device/browser type), and aggregated analytics about how the website is used.

3. How and why we use your data

We process your data on the following legal bases under the GDPR:

  • To provide the service (Art. 6(1)(b) — performance of a contract): creating and maintaining your account, storing your meal plans and recipes, and letting you share them with your family.
  • To keep the service secure and improve it (Art. 6(1)(f) — legitimate interests): preventing abuse, fixing bugs, and understanding which features are used.
  • Analytics (Art. 6(1)(a) — consent): where required, we rely on your consent before setting non-essential analytics cookies.

4. Cookies and analytics

Our website and app use PostHog, a product-analytics tool, to understand how mealsketch is used — which pages and features people visit, and how they move through the product. This includes automatically recorded interactions such as page views and clicks. PostHog sets cookies on your device for this, and we host it in the European Union.

We ask for your consent before any analytics cookies are set: until you choose “Accept” on our cookie banner, no analytics cookies are stored and no usage data is collected. You can withdraw your consent at any time by declining the banner, clearing the cookie in your browser settings, or contacting us. Blocking or declining analytics does not affect your ability to use mealsketch.

5. Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it for advertising. We rely on a small number of trusted service providers (data processors) who act on our instructions:

  • Hosting — our servers run on infrastructure located in the EU (Hetzner, in Germany).
  • Analytics — PostHog (EU-hosted product analytics), as described above.

6. How long we keep your data

We keep your account data and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, or ask us to delete your data, we will remove it within a reasonable period, except where we are required to keep certain information to comply with the law.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you;
  • have inaccurate data corrected;
  • have your data erased (the “right to be forgotten”);
  • receive your data in a portable, machine-readable format;
  • object to or restrict certain processing;
  • withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at mealsketch@gmail.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

8. Data security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and hashed passwords. No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep your data safe.

9. Children

mealsketch is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

10. International transfers

Your data is stored within the EU, including our hosting (Hetzner) and our analytics (PostHog EU). Should any processor ever transfer data outside the EU, that transfer is covered by appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

11. Changes to this policy

As mealsketch is still in beta, we may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you.

12. Contact

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your data, email us at mealsketch@gmail.com.
